the bell 02:58
I got up today everything eventually will break you were moving out ‘cos you took all you could take…for heaven’s sake I wasn’t listening for the bell you were ringing, could not tell when you got in you gave me hell…oh well you’re not that vain it never crossed my mind to be ashamed you said you were hurt well I’ve heard it all before…time and again I wasn’t listening for the bell you were ringing, could not tell when you got in you gave me hell…oh well you were standing in the snow a half a dozen frozen fingers the bitter cold will often sting us down to our souls I wasn’t listening for the bell you were ringing, could not tell when you got in you gave me hell…oh well some things you can’t ignore I’d say today’s the perfect underscore you turned on your heels and marched right out the door…forevermore I wasn’t listening for the bell you were ringing, could not tell when you got in you gave me hell…oh well I wasn’t listening for the bell I wasn’t listening for the bell I wasn’t listening for the bell…oh well

city streets 03:32
the city streets that once were paved are now pitted and concave and the season’s melted snow has revealed all the holes goodbye to the corner shop the record stores and vacant lot goodbye to all the diners and the bakeries goodbye to the coffee shop replace it with a coffee shop it’ll make you lose your mind so easily now the scenery won’t stop ‘til there’s no more cinder block and they’re digging up the trees to make room for you and me goodbye to the corner shop the record stores and vacant lot goodbye to all the diners and the bakeries goodbye to the coffee shop replace it with a coffee shop it’ll make you lose your mind so easily check your pocket, buyer’s market goodbye to the corner shop the record stores and vacant lot they put a fence around the green to be preserved but never seen my city’s coming to an end so enjoy it while you can goodbye to the corner shop the record stores and vacant lot goodbye to all the diners and the bakeries goodbye to the coffee shop replace it with a coffee shop it’ll make you lose your mind so easily goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

guaranteed to last a lifetime keep in mind that’s if you die when you should today could be your last time say goodbye and disappear for good or get out of bed and see where it goes raise a glass, the party’s over it doesn’t mean they’ll hang you out to dry you know it’s now or never all you ever have to do is try so get out of bed and see where it goes all the lazy yesterdays all the things you’ve thrown away everything you promised you’d get to swaddled in your welfare state swimming in an ocean of cliches you might evaporate you’ve been sleeping in too late…these days so get out of bed and see where it goes all the lazy yesterdays all the things you’ve thrown away everything you promised you’d get to you’d never do

coming down, coming down again coming down, coming down again fall has come and gone it’ll be winter soon and the needle’s skipping on and on inside the same old groove coming down, coming down again coming down, coming down again when you know that in the past you’re feeling present tense and the state I’m in reminds me I subscribe to no events they’ve come to beat you up, they’ll wait isolation isolates, words of wisdom irritate those who thought were your best mates coming down, coming down again coming down, coming down again what I need’s a little shot y’know to ease the pain sometimes feel it’s all I’ve got it takes a lot for me to wake and face the day remember the fantasy arcade? it was our summer serenade it’s been a car park since eighth grade it’s sad these memories will fade
10.
if they never loved you, if they never tried if they never loved you, would you ever cry? I can’t help you this time, you may feel betrayed you have made a mess of things that you can’t wish away and it’s the little things that kill you the ones that you let in the little things that manage to get underneath your skin he will always be here, at least until he’s gone as long as he is human, he will let you down you won’t want to hear it, but you should be advised until you stop listening he will tell you lies and it’s the little things that kill you the ones that you let in the little things that manage to get underneath your skin all the letters that you’ve burned you know better and he will never learn tip-toe down the avenue, it’s reminiscent of the little girl you used to be, oh we can’t all be loved no, we can’t all be loved and it’s the little things that kill you the ones that you let in the little things that manage to get underneath your skin

not for sale 03:13
tired but not sick well but not well rested and everybody knows when the circus ends walking on air it can be terrifying if I could only bottle how I feel it’s not for sale it’s not for sale it’s not for sale it’s not for sale never was, just because broke but not busted well but not well adjusted I wouldn’t know how even if I could fail it’s not for sale it’s not for sale and everybody knows when the circus ends it’s not for sale it’s not for sale it’s not for sale it’s not for sale

about

Wes Hollywood is a beautiful conundrum. He is at once a modern craftsman and a retro stylist, a purveyor of vintage rock songcraft whose stylish leather boots are planted firmly in the 21st century. His new record is Fantasy Arcade, and it's the best thing he's ever done.

Mr. Hollywood has been a staple in independent music for more than a decade, first with The Wes Hollywood Show and then with a couple of well-received platters as tenniscourts. The name has changed, but the sound has remained a constant - two parts delirious Kinks melodicism mixed with one part Cheap Trick whipcrack, a splash of harmony and a bracing dash of fashion. This potent brew has never sounded better than it does on Fantasy Arcade. This album is everything that's great about Wes Hollywood distilled to its essence - 11 perfect pop confections that will have you bobbing your head and singing along by the second chorus. There are rock songs for the teddy boys and ballads for the weepers, each one like a favorite 45 on the jukebox you've spent your life looking for.

The maestro has taken his vintage fetishism one step farther - Fantasy Arcade is available in both stereo and mono versions. While downloaders can have their choice, those lucky saps who get their hands on the limited-edition vinyl will be treated to a DOUBLE GATEFOLD LP, one with each mix, so they can let their ears decide which is better. Lucky dogs.

So don't wait! Do your HiFi a favor and pick up a copy of Fantasy Arcade today!
It won't make you any cooler. You'll just feel cooler.

“WES HOLLYWOOD…
He’s brought back a shot of excitement at a time when gloom and depression had soured the Pop Scene. But sheer exuberance is not enough to survive under the critical glance directed at today’s rock practitioners.

Fortunately, Mr. Hollywood has developed a talent for writing, composing and arranging. He has produced a program of sustained interest—mixing hit appeal with solid musical ideas. Lights must be turned off, and volume controls set to maximum to absorb this properly! ‘Watch your eardrums,’ an engineer yelled at a hearing at Chicago’s famed Engine Studios, one sweltering day in September. Visiting elderly men and small children, touring the studio, were warned to evacuate during playback…but they stayed in the control room to hear WES HOLLYWOOD roar into an explosion of musical adjectives. Listen to the aural thunder as Wes and his band hurtle into an odyssey of sound and emotion!

The men and children survived and my ears were unscathed, but a final warning:
FANTASY ARCADE is loaded and aimed at YOU!”
-John Butler Train
